When music works, it works, and when these bad boys play, they are truly Baaad Boyz. Bandmates Tony Young (vocals), Marcus Taylor (drums), Charles Foxx (bass), Jerry Cole (keyboards) and John Virgin (guitar) are known for getting funky on old-school stuff by Rick James, Isaac Hayes, Marvin Gaye, James Brown and Prince, but that ain’t all that these BBs do. They’ll pop a classic like “Jungle Love” by The Time or a smokin’ version of “Papa was a Rolling Stone” along with upbeat blues, a rocker from ZZ Top or pop from Phil Collins. These extraordinary musicians also excel in contemporary, smooth jazz, with Tony tackling big name vocalists such as Will Downing and Gregory Porter. Catch them every other Thursday at Mariah’s (April 20 is their next date), June 2 at The Legacy of Hope Festival (formerly SOHO), and on June 3 at Norb Andy’s. Many thanks go out to Amber Nicole for all her dedication and heartfelt work helping the Baaad Boyz do good.
