Becoming one of the most popular parties in Springfield, the Fat Ass 5K and Street Party fills downtown May 11-12. This is a race where winning is good, but enjoying yourself is even better. Stations are set up along the race route where participants can indulge in goodies such as donuts, ice cream and beer. And it ends with a huge hog roast and party. And the money raised goes to organizations such as the National Multiple Sclerosis Association, Mini O’Beirne Crisis Nursery and Southwind Park. Friday is the preview party and packet pickup at the Hilton for those registered. Saturday packet pick up is 7:30 to 9 a.m. The race starts at 10 a.m. The party is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters as the featured music.
