Get ready to put your hands together as you head to Sangamon Auditorium, UIS on Sunday, March 18, to hear the multi-Grammy Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir. The concert, titled “African Grace,” features the vibrant rhythm movement and the renowned vocal harmonies of this 52-member worldwide acclaimed group. Since its formation in 2002, the choir has performed alongside superstars including Bono, Queen, Celine Dion, John Legend, Peter Gabriel, Josh Groban, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. The group’s first CD, “Voices from Heaven,” reached Number 1 on Billboard’s World Music Chart. Its second CD, “Blessed,” won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music. Three subsequent CDs, “Live at the Nelson Mandela Theatre,” “African Spirit” and “African Grace” were all nominated or received a Grammy Award. In addition to great music, Soweto Gospel Choir’s AIDS orphanage foundation, Nkosi’s Haven Vukani, has collected more than $1.5 million.
