Thomas Allen Gum was a kind, quiet, gentle man who always put his family first, from giving up smoking when his daughters developed asthma, to spending hi
s two-week vacation driving to various parts of the country to give his daughters educational and fun experiences. He was a man of faith and attended the First Church of God in Springfield with his family his entire adult life.
He worked his way up from poor beginnings to computer punch-card operator to a programmer, giving his family a better life. He also served his country in the Illinois National Guard. He’s beloved and missed terribly by his daughters and his wife of 63 years.
