The state plans to move the Illinois Department of Transportation’s traffic safety division from its current location on North Ninth Street to the agency’s main building on Dirksen Parkway.
Anders Lindall, spokesman for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 31, says that the state has informed the union of the planned move.
“Management has told us that no work is being eliminated and no layoffs are planned,” Lindall said via email. “I’m also told that ‘about 20 higher-level positions will be eliminated’ but that none are AFSCME members.”
Asked about any plans to move operations or eliminate jobs, IDOT spokeswoman Gianna Urgo said that the agency is working on a response to questions and hopes to have answers by the end of the day.
