Green Day targets overpass
Volunteers with Springfield Green are expected to
converge on the Fifth and Sixth street overpass at Stanford Avenue on from
8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in the city-sponsored group’s
first “Clean & Green Day.” Volunteers will remove debris
and brush, pull weeds, and mow the grass. The overpass was identified in a
Springfield Green survey last year as one of the areas most needing
beautification. The cleanup is just the first phase of work; the city is
urging the Canadian National Railroad to landscape the property and paint
or screen the overpass. For more information on the cleanup, call
217-789-2116, ext. 529, or e-mail green@springfield.il.us/green.

raised more than $383,000 in 2004, exceeding its goal by nearly 10 percent.
This year’s campaign begins Nov. 9.
