SOUR CLOUT

In a close race, Central City Neighborhood Association last week changed its
name to something with more flavor — Vinegar Hill Neighborhood Association.
As one of the most vocal and active such groups in Springfield, it only makes
sense that they would chuck the blandly alliterative appellation for a more
titillating title. Still, the saucier name won by a mere four votes. We say,
“¡Viva la Vinegar!”

UNITY INC.?

Unity for Our Community marks its second anniversary at a 9 a.m. meeting Saturday, July 10, at Union Baptist Church, 1405 E. Monroe St. On the agenda: What’s next? Chairman Mike Williams says some members have pressed to incorporate the ad hoc grassroots organization, which meets monthly to discuss Springfield issues, as a not-for-profit organization.

BACK TO WORK!

After four marathon months of medical problems, Ward 7 Alderwoman Judy Yeager has made a healthy return not only to her city council seat but also to her job as a compliance chief at the Department of Children and Family Services. July 6 was her first day back, and she arrived to find her computer access codes as well as a few of her potted plants expired. But fortunately, her co-workers had saved for her stacks of work, and her in-box is now taller than Ward 9 Alderman Tom Selinger. She thinks she can whittle it down in no time, thanks to her new mode of transportation — the bus system, which gets her to the office no later than 7:25 a.m.
