On March 10-11, the Illinois State Library hosted the second national
“Targeting Autism” conference. This year the ISL welcomed John Donvan and Caren Zucker,  New York
Times bestselling authors of the book In a Different Key: The Story of Autism and former ABC news correspondents to
talk about their efforts to generate awareness.

At the end of their discussion, Donvan and Zucker were
presented the Illinois Literary Heritage award on behalf of Jesse White, Illinois’
Secretary of State.

At least 100 Librarians, teachers and parents from all across
the state attended the two-day conference looking for tips and ideas on how to
understand the needs of people with an Autistic Spectrum disorder, a disorder
disrupts a person’s social and communication skills.

“Targeting Autism”, has become a project that the ISL has
taken on in order to form a broader network of people who have the designated
task of understanding people’s needs.
