A
Sangamon County jail inmate has died after an apparent suicide attempt.

Tiffany
A. Rusher, 27, was rushed to St. John’s Hospital after she was found in her
cell at 3:45 p.m. on March 18, according to the Sangamon County sheriff’s
office. She was placed on life support and died on Thursday.

The
sheriff’s office says that Illinois State Police are conducting an
investigation.

Rusher
came to the jail in December from McFarland Mental Health Center, where she had
been committed after being released from prison last year after serving time
for a sex offense. She reportedly had a history of suicide attempts and was
considered a suicide risk in jail. She was under suicide watch while in prison.
She was arrested and moved from McFarland to jail last year after she allegedly
attacked residents and employees. She was facing battery charges that were
dismissed two days after she was found unresponsive in her cell.
