Japanese and British decorators delight over GelGems, but if you’re into “squishy, sticky artworks that are irresistibly fun to decorate with,” then there’s no need to go that far.
Sangamon County board chairman Andy Van Meter created GelGems — colorful hearts, flowers, fish, and right now snowflakes, stars and other
holiday shapes, that stick to windows or mirrors — here in Springfield. He co-founded Design Ideas, a local company that creates
home and office accessories, with his sister in 1983. They call GelGems their “newest design craze,” selling them online and in stores all over the world.
To get yours in time for the holidays, visit the GelGems’ Web site at www.gelgems.com, or head over to the Design Ideas’ holiday liquidation store, located at the former site of CVS Pharmacy in the
Town and Country Shopping Center on South MacArthur.
