National media report that some conservatives are blending, not only religion and politics, but also are including exercise and diet in the mix. “Less Prozac, more protein,” was a theme at the Young Women’s Leadership Summit hosted by conservative group Turning Point USA, reports the New York Times. The message was that women who lift weights and eat clean are right wing. The Atlantic recently profiled celebrity workout trainer Tracy Anderson, zeroing in on her past emphasis on “thinness,” part of the “skinny-industrial complex,” which is now out of style, according to the piece. In this age of Wegovy, the language has evolved, with “fitness” changing to the more inclusive “wellness.” Even wellness came under attack in another New York Times article. “The broader wellness industry’s obsession with control, thinness and optimization can overlap uncomfortably with exclusionary or even fascist frameworks,” a critic was quoted saying. I say keep politics out of the gym. Some things just don’t go together. It could be just a plot to get liberals to die young. The next thing you know, somebody will be trying to mix morality and politics. – Fletcher Farrar, editor
