When it comes to working for change, it's always hard to decide whether to go small or large, simple or systemic. We face the starfish dilemma; we can't save them all so we save one by one. Which is fine, if we don't spend so much time throwing starfish back in the sea that we ignore the ocean pollution. Rather than either or, the solution can be both and. Filling food pantries doesn't keep us from supporting increases in the minimum wage. There's no need to choose between charity and justice. These matters will be the subject of prayer and teaching during the annual Good Friday Way of the Cross for Peace and Justice, an ecumenical walk through downtown to consider "injustices experienced by God's people in our world today." The walk departs at noon Friday, March 29, from the Supreme Court building at Second and Capitol in Springfield. –Fletcher Farrar, editor
