Congratulations on your re-election Mr. Mayor, now let’s get back to work. Jim Langfelder is right that his first term “laid a foundation for a better tomorrow,” and voters showed confidence in him. It’s good of him to say he’ll make east side economic development a top priority in his second term, but the plan for redeveloping Poplar Place is tenuous and needs work. He knows CWLP rates are too high and the utility’s future is sketchy. Minority hiring in the fire department lags other city departments. The Y block is still an open field, holding out for a state-funded development. There is much to be done, and Springfield is hoping for stronger leadership in a second Langfelder term.   –Fletcher Farrar, editor and CEO
