Named after a blacktop south of town heading out to the country through New City, this band is like family to each other and plays to the crowd with the dedication and closeness of relatives. With the active stage presence and powerful lead vocals of the two-woman attack of Peoria native Melanie Finley and local lady Aley Mundstock (her last NCR show is this Saturday) fronting the group and backed by a veteran band of Luke Turasky (guitar, banjo, vocals), Harry Lounsberry (keys, vocals), Chris Harris (bass, vocals), Mike Webb (guitar, fiddle, steel guitar, vocals) and Max Harris (drums, vocal), NCR is fired up and ready to go. By combining old-school classics and the latest hot hits climbing the country charts, the band changes up set lists, adds new songs and keeps the action fresh, all while setting a high standard for local entertainment. But don’t just take our word for it as the group, now sponsored by Budweiser, was voted “Best Country Band” in 2014 and 2015 by Illinois Times’ readers in our Best of Springfield poll.
