Fresh from receiving the most votes as Best New Local Band in our recent Best of Springfield issue, Music for Big Kids continues on a roll with the release of their first CD, Hold and Hold On. Produced, recorded and mixed by Kevin Wasmer in his locally owned and operated studio, Wasmer Waves, the album features eight songs, predominantly written by singer and rhythm guitarist Patrick Russell, with two co-writes by bassist Jeff Nevins and one from Dan Stroup, plus a song from Jacob Palmatier, a friend of the band killed in action in Iraq in 2005. Backed by the sympathetically forceful drumming of Ralph Shank and the blisteringly tasteful lead guitar work of Michael Sullivan, Hold and Hold On should transfer well into a live performance with M4BK’s proving that this weekend and again Dec. 11 at the Hoogland Center for the Arts. The CD is available at the gig and as a digital download on the band’s official Web site.
