A folksinger by calling and by determination, this young man makes music for himself and we're fortunate to be recipients of the thoughtful and provocative, insightful and superlative work he produces. After Alec James Payton took off a few years ago (was it more or less or less or more?) accompanied by an acoustic guitar, harmonica, voice and creativity, he was out to continue with an adventure in composition through songs and stories. Now upon returning for a hometown visit, he comes bearing a new full-length CD entitled, Skin I Feel No More, recorded out on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Alec traded manual work on an agri-forest tree farm for recording time and as with his previous album, Carried by Cold Water, Willie Scoggins again produced the music. A few local musicians came aboard to flesh out the songs slightly, but mostly the record is a bare bones guitar, voice and harmonica representation of the simply chorded, but harmonically complicated and lyrically sophisticated songs of Alec James Payton.
