Today by chance, I read about a young man who died recently. Jacob David George was a banjo-playing singer/songwriter, bicyclist/activist who rode across the country with a message. His message was a plea for us to stop the madness of “sending poor farmers to kill poor farmers in Afghanistan.”

Jacob served three tours in Afghanistan. I didn’t know him and am not making a political stance here, I am just drawn to acknowledge the light of his being and share his words. Even though this is an abbreviated look at the man and his life, I share his wish for a world without war – Striving always for that place and time when “we” decide that every human life is worth more than any possession or ideology.

What would it take to make every man KNOW that every other man is himself?

Following links like breadcrumbs, I found a poem Jacob wrote (thank you Jan Barry), a song and a short film. (Thank you Stephen Ironside for allowing me to post these amazing photos.) So read and hear Jacob's words. Spread them if you feel compelled, as I did, to do so.

(please read the rest of this poem, "Support the Troops" by Jacob David George at the link above) ...

"We just Need to support the troops"
is what they tell me
well, this is from a troop
so listen carefully
what we Need are teachers who understand the history of this country
what we Need is a decent living wage, so people ain't cold and hungry
what we Need is bicycle infrastructure spanning this beauteous nation
what we Need are more trees and less play stations
what we Need is a justice system that seeks the truth
what we Need are more books and less boots
what we Need is love
for every woman and man ...
