The world through a complex series of lines and tangles

Betsy Dollar serves as the executive director of the Springfield Art Association and has worked both as a commercial artist and a fine artist. She works primarily in handmade paper and is known for her works that span from functional handmade books to large-scale immersive installations. Her work can be found in both private and public collections throughout the United States. "Through these works of handmade paper," Dollar said, "an exploration of interconnection and consequence continues, with its beauty and its traps and with the application of a binary of symbols and patterns that attempt to apply order and balance to the complexity and chaos." The visual arts gallery will host an opening reception for Dollar's work on Thursday, Oct. 21, from 5:30-8 p.m. The program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
