ART | The friendship of Leigh Gross Day and Susan Lawrence Dana
The work of poet, artist and professional photographer Leigh Gross Day and her lifelong friendship with Springfield socialite Susan Lawrence Dana are the topics of this presentation and panel discussion. The art of Day (1861-1910) appeared in national publications including The Ladies Home Journal and Women’s Home Companion. Dana’s home, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, was the setting for many of Day’s photos. Some of Day’s poetry, art and photography will be shown during the presentation. Day’s granddaughters and great-granddaughter, who may attend the event, provided materials and stories. The panel discussion will include Cinda Klickna, Allicent Smith and Betsy Dollar. The free event, the monthly program of the Sangamon County Historical Society, is sponsored by the society, Dana-Thomas House Foundation and Springfield Art Association. Wine and snacks will be provided.
