According to the press release, “The Fat Ass 5K and Street Party for Charity is not your grandfather’s 5K. Unless your grandfather is cool. Then it’s totally his 5K.” The 3.2-mile race route is scattered with entertainment and surprises that include hip-hop dancers, a traditional German band, free haircuts (yes, you read that correctly), doughnuts, corn dogs, ice cream, chili, beer, water, plus so much more. The fun continues post-race with the street party, which features a barbecue lunch, soft drinks, beer, music by Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters and a costume contest. This is an all-ages event, so registration options vary from under 21, to race only, to party only, to race plus party, and range from $30-$40, with additional processing fees. Did we mention that event proceeds go to charity, and that the Fat Ass 5K has donated more than $690,000 to local charities to date? More information and registration is available online at http://fatass5k.com.
