On May 19, Springfield Pridefest, the gayest celebration in town, returns for another year. The festivities kick off with a parade at 11:30 a.m., beginning at Fifth and Allen streets, leading north up Fifth Street to Jackson Street, and entering the Pridefest grounds via Capitol Street for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon. The afternoon will offer live music by Fun DMC, Thornhill and The Shenanigans, plus the much-anticipated annual drag show featuring some of the area’s top drag performers. Other attractions include more than 50 vendors offering a variety of information and wares, activities for children and teens including a DJ, karaoke and a teen drag show, plus food and drinks for purchase. PrideFest is open to all and free to attend. For more information about Springfield Pridefest, visit http://springfieldpride.org or call 528-5253.
