Continuing an apparent tradition of sneaking quirky and / or acclaimed and / or independent movies onto and off of Springfield screens so stealthily that local cinephiles may never realize they were here at all, AMC Showplace 12 is currently showing The Bling Ring, Sofia Coppola’s (Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette) latest slice of distaff angst.
The fact-based film stars Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson in a very un-Hermione-like role as the slightly-fictionalized leader of a titular gang of burglars responsible for a series of 2008 home invasions targeting such celebrities as Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, in order to relieve them of excess fashion accessories. In the process, ring members landed themselves both reality TV contracts and felony convictions.
For some reason, a Google search of Springfield movie times does not bring up The Bling Ring, but AMC’s website does. Catch it while you can.
