Springfield Park District has upped its game and added the Jingle Bells Spectacular to its ever-popular Caroling at the Carillon annual holiday event. The festivities begin at 3 p.m. with doughnuts and apple cider, courtesy of the Apple Barn, and kid-friendly activities, crafts and games. Afterwards you can gather around a roaring bonfire and sing your favorite Christmas carols as the carillon rings out the melodies, then warm up with a hot chocolate and cookies. At 5:20 p.m., the Christmas tree will be lit, a moment which will surely get some oohs and aahs from crowd. Listen for the Trinity Wind Ensemble’s classic holiday musical interludes, and be on the lookout for Santa to get your chance for a photo op. It doesn’t get much more spectacular than that, so put on those coats, hats and gloves and get ready to carol at the carillon.
