Another Letter From My Grandpa
My grandpa wrote this letter
to his second son who is at
college: “My Dear Boy Trever
You have a great day outlined
for me and I am sure I would
enjoy every bit of it. But I
cannot come. We are
building the floor tomorrow
between the milk house and
shop and I have a cement
mixer and men coming out
from town on that day. I
regret greatly that I cannot
be with you. Regarding
your car, cut it out. You are
better off without it. Even if it
cost nothing, what you need
is to develop quiet strength
and poise of mind and character,
the car tends to develop just
the opposite qualities. Walk,
think and grow great. I do not
want you to use a car in Madison.
Sell it and walk.”
