It’s that time of year again. The Illinois State Fair will be held Aug. 7-17. The Twilight Parade starts at 6 p.m. on Aug. 7. Great days for families are Friday, Aug. 15, which is Futures for Kids Day (activities for young kids and many of the contests take place); Saturday, Aug. 16, Park District/Conservation Day (located at Park Play Station, next to Lincoln stage in the pavilion, you can stand inside a giant bubble and more); and Sunday, Aug. 17, Family Day (reduced admission). Contests include baby picture, baton twirling, chocolate, cutest little farmer, chili, dog photo, ponytail, talent and more. Daily in Conservation World and Happy Hollow find The Whip Guy, ultimate air dogs, scientific experiments, monarch mania, fishing clinics, archery, tie dying, rock climbing, petting zoo, duck races, pictures with a real wolf, live gator show, tropical bird show and more. In the Energy Education Tent, Main and Central, ride the energy bike and partake in kids activities 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. To top it all off, every evening except on Aug. 13-14, fireworks will fill the night sky. The fair has a new website to check out and you can get event times and locations. Visit agr.state.il.us/isf.
