FESTIVALS | Cawley Meadow to be site of annual fall fun
For nearly 60 years, this family-friendly fall festival has been going strong. This year should be no different, especially with good weather in the forecast. The event site, Cawley Meadow, is east of East Lake Shore Drive. It will feature children’s activities, vendors, food trucks, blacksmith demonstrations, live music both days and a display on the history and evolution of the garden. Garden visionary Harriet Knudson’s buckboard wagon also will be on site as well. Children’s activities include building fairy houses in the Fairy Woodlands, creating tree trolls for the Troll Trail and playing in the Nature’s Play area. The Sangamon Valley Woodcarvers will conduct a soap-carving workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. A little soap might come in handy after a day in the Garden. Admission is $8 each day with children 10 and younger free.
