Tomorrow’s Illinois Symphony Orchestra concert at Sangamon Auditorium promises to be a thoroughly singular event. True to the evening’s title, “Shimmering Shakespeare,” the second half of the program will combine dramatic performances by members of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival with the ISO’s interpretation of Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet.” The first half of the evening will find the orchestra tackling composer Chen Yi’s “Percussion Concerto” featuring the spectacle of guest percussionist Joseph Gramley, a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, expertly beating and bowing a vast arsenal of percussion instruments . Check out this video of Thursday’s rehearsal for a look at Gramley’s set-up and a taste of the riches in store for tomorrow night. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 22 at Sangamon Auditorium, UIS.
