Springfield’s portion of the 115th annual Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count will take place at the Adams Wildlife Society on Sunday, Jan. 4, from 1-3 p.m. This seasonal activity is designed as a census of sorts for the bird population. The data extracted from the Adams count is sent to the National Audubon Society to be used to help assess bird health across populations and guide future conservation efforts. On Sunday, Adams Wildlife Society requests volunteers to assist with the count by walking the outdoor trails as well as indoor volunteers to monitor and count birds at feeders. Adams Wildlife Society will provide holiday treats and warm beverages to keep the worker birds happy and singing. The Christmas Bird Count is open to all birders, regardless of skill level.
