Between the Cracks: Big Storm tonight at Black Sheep

The perpetual lament of the local band has always and forever remained: Why won't those bastards at the alt-weekly ever give us the time of day? Well, prepare to whine no more! Faingold at Large hereby presents Between the Cracks - a new feature designed to shine a light onto lesser-known, quite possibly up-and-coming Springfield-area bands, and all in their own words, to boot. Join us, won't you? There's gold between them thar cracks!

Our first BTC discovery is power-poppers Big Storm, who will be performing both tonight at Black Sheep (1320 S. 11th) and this Friday 5/31 at Bar None (corner of 5th and Monroe)

Personnel: Brandon Carnes (guitar/vocals), Phil Sgambelluri (bass), Ben Stockus (guitar), Gary Swaggerty III (drums)

What's in a name, particularly yours? Brandon Carnes: Big Storm is a theme I have been writing into songs for the past few years. I've used the term to represent the changes and circumstances that transform your life in unforeseen ways. After striking out trying to think of band names, I naturally came back the the theme that I thought embodied what I wanted my band to be.

When did you form? Summer of 2010

Releases/discography/download links: A couple of EP's at http://bigstorm.bandcamp.com

How do you pay the bills? Brandon prints T Shirts, Ben makes pizza, Phil works at the Lincoln home. and Gary is a career sandwich slinger.

What other artists have had the biggest impact on you? Jellyfish, Limbeck, The Format, Queen, Fun., The Beatles

Finish this sentence: If we didn't have to worry about money, we'd… HAVE ALL THE GEAR IN THE WORLD

Upcoming live appearances: Wednesday May 29 @ The Black Sheep, Friday May 31 @ Barnone, June 24 @ Error Records in Champaign, and more to be posted soon!
