Down the street from Lincoln Tower
Under the dome in the seat of power
Heavy are the heads that wear the crowns
Because five billion dollars must be found.
Bipartisan effort come on let’s think
As we face a budget deficit on the brink
Not higher taxes that’s what they are cryin’
To clean up this mess left by George Ryan.
High and low they search day and night

Journal as early as the 1830s. People’s Poetry wants you to share your thoughts
on what’s happening in Springfield today–in poetic form. Poems on any subject
will be considered, but ones that deal with issues of local interest are encouraged.
