The Sangamon Mass Transit District Board of Trustees packed a lot into this meeting, from big construction projects to dollars and cents (and a bit of personnel drama at the end).
Highlights:
- New walkway is now up at the transfer center, with elevators still about a year out, and the East Yard project moving ahead after IDOT sign-off.
- The Planning Commission is tightening up its Safe Streets for All safety plan, trying to sync an active transportation plan with the state’s, and reacting to new bike ridership numbers.
- Trustees locked in the FY27 corporate and capital budget, including funding for replacing 19 buses.
- Right after that, they signed off on a strategy for next year’s property tax levy: a 3.5% bump aimed at capturing new property value without breaking state limits.
- To close the night, the board approved changes to the Managing Director’s compensation while keeping the existing contract terms in place — for now.
If you care about how Springfield’s buses are funded, improved, and managed, this is a good snapshot of where the system is headed next.
