Norman Lee Myers, of Girard, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Feb. 28, 2025. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Norman was born to Samuel and Frances Mohn Myers on Dec. 16, 1936. He was a proud native of Springfield, Illinois, and though he lived many of his adult years in Northwest Indiana, he returned to the Springfield area upon retirement.
Norman served with honor in the U.S. Army after high school. He had a high work ethic and enjoyed the work he did throughout his life. He worked for Willet Trucking Co., was a Lake County Deputy Sheriff, had a distinguished career at Mobile Inc. and he owned two businesses: a family restaurant and a bar named Norm’s Pub.
After selling his businesses, he drove a semi-truck under his own company, NLM Trucking Inc. His hobbies included owning fast cars, riding motorcycles and listening to honky-tonk country music. He had 10 children and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and even one great-great grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Samuel Myers; his siblings Sammy Myers, Harold “Bud” Myers, Helen Connell, Connie Grant and Kay Farley; and his grandson, Anthony Price. He is survived by his children, Denise Kirby, Theresa Hoblitzell, Norman Myers Jr., Michael (Patty) Myers, Kathy Price, Connie (Charlie) Riner, Michelle (Mark) Jahnke, Pamela (Dave) Palmer and Edward Myers, and his sister, Toni Miles.
His family is grateful for the care Norman received in his final days from Gentiva Hospice. There will be a graveside service on Sunday, March 16, at 3 p.m. at Rochester Cemetery in Rochester, Illinois.
