DISABILITY-RIGHTS HEARING

Equip for Equality, an independent advocacy group for
the disabled, holds a public hearing on disability-rights issues in
Springfield, 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday, July 19, at the Springfield Hilton, 700

NEW MINISTERIAL ALLIANCE PRESIDENT

Dr. Wesley G. Robinson-McNeese, pastor of the New
Mission Church of God, was recently elected to a two-year term as president
of the Ministerial Alliance of Springfield and Vicinity. McNeese, who
previously served as vice president of the alliance, succeeds the Rev.
Silas Johnson, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. McNeese, an emergency
physician, serves as executive assistant to the dean for diversity,
multicultural, and minority affairs at the Southern Illinois University
School of Medicine and is an associate professor in the departments of
internal medicine and humanities at SIU. A native of East St. Louis,
McNeese served as a Morse-intercept operator in Vietnam before becoming an
Air Force paramedic. He and his wife, LaVern, have four children.

GUARD BAND TO PERFORM

The Springfield-based 144th Army National Guard Band
is scheduled to perform Saturday, July 23, at the World War II
60th-anniversary commemoration. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on
the Skyline Stage on the Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave. in Chicago. More

PUBLIC POOL TO CLOSE EARLY

The Nelson Recreation Center swimming pool will close
early this season for a facility renovation. The pool will be open until
Aug. 14. Veterans Memorial pool will honor all season passes for the Nelson pool until Labor
Day.
