Mayor Jim Langfelder announced today that appointments will be required to meet with any department at city hall starting Monday.
“With the potential increasing spread of COVID-19 because of Thanksgiving Day travel and gatherings, we are taking additional precautions while continuing our services to the public,” Langfelder said in a written statement. “The decisions we make at a city government level are never easy and come with much thought and deliberation. In times like this, government is expected to provide uninterrupted service that the public needs and deserves, while keeping our workforce safe.”
People who need to visit a department in city hall should either call the department directly – a directory of department numbers is available at the city’s website – or call 789-2000 and ask to be connected to a specific person or department. City staff will be on duty in city hall from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., as usual.
The police station neighboring city hall on Monroe Street will be open for regular services, but people are urged to call the police front desk at 788-8325 to determine whether issues can be handled by telephone.
The City Water, Light and Power will accept payments at its drive-up window at city hall. Customers can also pay online at mycwlp.com or by telephone by calling 789-2030. The city treasurer’s office can accept online payments for traffic violations, library fines and vital record fees at its website. The public works department can accept online payments for building permits. Commercial building permit applications along with sets of plans and required fees, can be dropped off in the city hall vestibule. Those with questions can call the public works department at 789-2255.
