A beer summit at Obed and Isaac’s? It could happen.
Karen Conn, the wife half of the husband-and-wife team that owns the popular Springfield microbrew pub, confirms that President Barack Obama, scheduled to address the General Assembly on Feb. 10, is on her radar screen. The staff of Gov. Bruce Rauner has been in touch, she says.
“The governor’s office did call and ask ‘Would it be OK,’” Conn says.
The answer is yes, Conn says, although she figures the business would have to close down for a bit. But she cautioned it’s far from a sure thing, given that the Secret Service hasn’t visited or even called. No word on whether they’d be drinking Silly Pants Stout, Long Nine Black IPA, Upside Brown Ale or – shudder – Stag, reputed to be a Rauner favorite.
