No Tom Tomorrow!

Dear Sir or Madam,
I grow increasingly tired of the liberal fire-fueling cartoons and articles
in your paper. I pick up your paper every week in order to get Springfield information
and ideas for my upcoming weekend. However, I am appalled at your partisan beliefs.
Yes, you have freedom of the press. Yes, you have a right to say what you want.
Are there any conservatives on your staff? Does anyone support our president
and the cause that we are pursuing in Iraq? If you would open your eyes, you
would know the torture, rape, and murder that has been going on in that country
for 20 years. I am not in my 50s, and I am not a male. Therefore, I’m not your
typical Republican. I am a 26-year-old female who supports the troops and I
support my president 100%. His cause is noble and it is justified. Your paper
has done nothing to encourage the demonstrating of support for our troops. You
have glamorized getting out and walking around with baby killing signs. Your
paper is one-sided and it is doing nothing but trying to drum up a lack of support
for our men and women overseas. My generation is on its way to treating our
Gulf War II veterans the way our fathers were treated when they came back from
Vietnam. Get a conservative on your staff if you want a bi-partisan paper that
people read outside of the can. People should arrive at their own truths. One’s
own truth is a decision that comes from a two-sided argument. This Modern World
cartoons portraying Bush as provoking attacks on our troops disgust me.

Touched by the trials of Job

Dear editor,
Thank you for printing Job Conger’s recollection of his departed dad [“Father’s
Day,” July 24]. As someone who had his own troubled relationship with a strong-willed
parent, I found the essay true, eloquent, and touching.
