All our best

I especially enjoyed how took your turn and gave your choices [in the “Best
of Springfield” issue, September 18]. Your decision, in my opinion, was like
a teacher grading a student’s paper.

My personal choices (although I did not compete in your contest this year)
are: Dusty Rhodes (Illinois Times) for best reporter; Chris Britt (State
Journal-Register), best cartoonist; and Glenn McEntyre (WICS-TV, Channel
20), best TV journalist. For best gospel groups, my choices are “The Fantastic
Jones Family,” “The Four Sopranos” and the fabulous group led by Silvester Walton,
who tirelessly sings his lungs out while proficiently playing the ivory off
the piano keys.

Don’t be discouraged by unhappy readers and professional public-relations
persons who didn’t get their way. One year, I offered my opinion and none of
my suggestions made the “Best of Springfield” list. I’m not mad or sad — just
glad that I have had the opportunity to read a very well-written, first-rate
reader survey.

Thank you for mentioning Cynda Wrightsman in the Best Actress category. In
this reader’s opinion, she is the best actress in Springfield of this — or any
— year.
