Seniors graduating from high school this spring should keep their eyes open for the Sherel Nutt Memorial Scholarship applications in their local schools. The Springfield Lake Shore Improvement Association is offering two $1,000 scholarships to any senior planning to attend a community college or a four-year university in the fall. The scholarship honors a longtime board member who believed in the preservation of Lake Springfield, volunteering for community service, achievement and the youth of the future. All students who attend high school in Springfield, Rochester or Chatham are eligible to apply. To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must submit an essay on “What Lake Springfield means to me,” copies of their grades, a list of community service and extra-curricular activities, and two letters of recommendation. Scholarship recipients will be notified in early May, prior to high school graduation. The application must be postmarked by April 15 and can be found online at www.lakespringfield.org.
