HISTORIC SITES OPEN MONDAY
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and most
state historic sites administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation
Agency will be open Memorial Day. Among the Lincoln-related sites open
Monday, May 30, are Lincoln’s New Salem, the Old State Capitol, and
the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices.
MUSIC WRITER IS A FINALIST
René Spencer Saller, whose music reviews
appear weekly in Illinois Times, is a finalist in the music-criticism category of the
Association of Alternative Newsweeklies’ annual editorial contest.
Saller, who began writing the “Sound Patrol” column for IT in May 2004, was
recognized for her reviews of recent CDs by Ike Turner, Wilco, and Eminem.
BISHOP LUCAS NAMES PANEL
Bishop George J. Lucas has named five members to an
independent panel charged with reviewing allegations of misconduct by
clergy in the Diocese of Springfield.
The five volunteer panel members
are Carolyn D. Graham, a housewife and longtime member of Blessed Sacrament
Parish in Springfield; state Sen. William Haine, a member of St. Mary
Parish in Alton and former state’s attorney for Madison County; the
Rev. Kurt Hartrich, pastor of St. Francis Solanus Parish in Quincy; Sgt.
Robert Sgambelluri, a state law-enforcement investigator and member of
Cathedral Parish in Springfield; and Sister Joan Winkler, provincial
superior of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis.
The panel, headed by former U.S.
Attorney Bill Roberts, accepts information about clergy misconduct via a

The Springfield diocese comprises 148 parishes in 28
counties in central Illinois.
KLICKNA TAPPED FOR IEA JOB
Cinda Klickna, president of the Springfield Education
Association, has been elected to a three-year term as secretary-treasurer
of the Illinois Education Association. An English teacher in District 186
since 1973, Klickna has been active in the IEA and National Education
Association for her entire career. She also is a frequent contributor to Illinois Times and the State Journal-Register.
