A program aimed at helping single mothers out of poverty by hiring them to refurbish furniture will celebrate its one-year anniversary by holding a sale on Saturday, March 25. Named “Wooden it be Lovely,” the program was founded by Rev. Margaret Ann Jessup and is described as an “innovative ministry designed to help low-income women in transition.” The program began in March of 2016 with two employees and has provided work for 16 women in the ensuing year. The upcoming sale will include chairs, benches, table and chair sets, shelves, cabinets, dressers as well as “colorfully painted and unique pieces” and oak furniture with its original finish. The sale begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 S. Douglas Avenue. For more information or to make a donation call Jessup at 217-546-4631, visit the Wooden It Be Lovely DAUMC Facebook page, follow their Instagram at woodenitbelovelyishope or go to http://www.woodenitbelovelydaumc.com.
