WE NEED WINDMILLS

I am so sorry the Illinois Times letter writers are being deprived of the “dark sky” and “beautiful country” because of windmills, those “noisy” eyesores that cause “light pollution” (“Letters to the editor,” Dec. 14). Have they ever wondered why they are popping up everywhere?

We have been told for decades that we must stop using fossil fuels. We have to develop alternative energy sources and windmills are one. And for those climate-change deniers, I can’t wait to watch them ice skate on the Washington Park lagoon and sled down Pasfield Park golf course like we used to do.

TOO MUCH WHINING

Who knew that merely discussing the expansion of renewable energy would cause such a flurry of snowflakes swirling around about the aesthetics of windmills (“Sangamon County could see first wind farm soon,” Nov. 30).

DOESN’T SEEM LEGIT

Sounds like conspiracy theories, unsubstantiated innuendo, disinformation and whatever else the left calls similar observations by conservatives in order to shut down debate about important issues that the left is afraid will not stand up to close observation (“Project Censored,” Dec. 21).

DO MORE

Sen. Dick Durbin has been in the Senate 25 years. He’s the majority whip. Springfield is his hometown. And the best he can do is write a letter (“Rail improvement project delayed,” Jan. 4)?

MELVIN GEIGER

Dr. Geiger took care of our dogs from the late 1960s into the mid-1990s. We loved him so much and he was so kind to our dogs (“Remembering,” Dec. 28).

SUZANNE “SUSY” WOODS

I worked on the other side of the table from Susy on a few occasions. She was extremely professional and wonderful to work with. She always was willing to work with us to help implement the best Individual Education Plan for the student.

VINCENT SPERANZA

I was privileged to know Vince; I met him when he came to our video studio to have his life story recorded. You can hear and see him tell it online at the oral history section of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library website.

JAMES “PATE” PHILIP

Great work. Philip was also known for making numerous controversial comments on various topics throughout his career. Many, including former Illinois gubernatorial candidate Dawn Clark Netsch, labeled him as both holding and vocally expressing racial prejudice. However, Philip himself said that he was not racist, saying, “When you criticize minorities, whether you’re right or wrong, their reaction is that it’s a racist remark.”
