Faithful reader Brent Hahn responded to my maunderings about natural beauty and politics, “The blossomy haw, remembered,” with this reminder that the sensible person who lives in a place bereft of scenery simply makes some up.
I grew up in Springfield. and moved away, but lately I’ve been back a lot. And I’ve decided my two favorite hills are Vinegar and Old Aristocracy. Probably because everyone’s fine with the fact that they’re entirely imaginary. I would also include the Indian Hills subdivision out by the fairgrounds, which is not only dead flat but has bends in the road that bend around nothing, but I don’t think it qualifies because the imaginary hills aren’t specifically named.
