Misty Buscher knows what it takes to be a fine mayor. She has pledged an administration of openness, transparency and communication, and we’re eager to watch that unfold. As a newcomer to most of the issues facing city government, Buscher’s performance will be key, while Springfield welcomes new energy and a fresh face. We’re intrigued by her hope to attract technology businesses, her stated openness to employing a city planner and her promise to support older neighborhoods. Mayor Jim Langfelder, the defeated incumbent, deserves this city’s gratitude for serving two terms well. The mayoral campaign was hard-fought, but both candidates stuck to the issues at hand, rather than devolving into the culture wars which plague politics elsewhere. This election portends a bright future for our town. – Fletcher Farrar, editor
