A faithful reader was kind
enough to share her own recollections of Adrian Belew in Springfield. She
writes:
Back in 1982 or so, I was at my parent’s
house visiting. I grew up on South State. My mom was a precinct
committee woman (wrong party, but I kept my mouth shut MOST of the time). She
said that while working her precinct, she’d met a guy, living on South
MacArthur, almost right behind their house, who said he’d been in a rock band.
She had written down his name and the name of the bands, on a piece of paper. I
read “Adrian Belew” and the name of a few bands, probably King Crimson and
another. I thought ‘sure, and this guy’s living in Springpatch.’ Well, it
turned out he was not some crackpot making stuff up. He WAS a famous musician,
living on MacArthur Blvd. in my mom’s precinct! Wow. Went to see him at the
club in Victoria Falls. Of course my mom had no idea who he was or who the
groups were. I still wonder what brought him to this area.
