How a native of Fuji ended up playing reggae in an award-winning band all over the Midwest is one part of Unity’s story, but what keeps them coming back to venues is the real story and that’s based on the fantastic and flowing music they play. Fronted by founding member Kai “Pita” Katobalavu on lead vocals and rhythm acoustic guitar, the band of Tim Perkins (bass, vocals), Ryan Peerenboom (guitar, vocals), Jeremy “Chunk” Schroetter (keyboards, percussion, vocals) and Kelvin Ayres (drums, vocals), along with guest vocalist and percussionist Alana Miron, keeps the groove going on and on. Hailing from Appleton, Wis., and winners of two consecutive WAMI’s (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) awards for Reggae & World Music, the band plays a busy Midwest touring schedule at festivals, fairs, bars and all places in between. Blessed with an attitude and voice reminiscent of the great Bob Marley, Pita brings the beliefs of reggae music power to citizens of the Midwest by using classic reggae songs, original music and a variety of funk and blues classics.
