Always a busy band during the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, The Emerald Underground goes for the pot o’ gold at the end of the Irish rainbow with three shows this weekend. Now into their second decade of performance, the group fluctuates from a TEU-lite on Friday to a full-blown eight members on Saturday. Now featuring Joe Kath (fiddle, vocals), Jack White (keyboards, vocals), Nat Radwine (drums, percussion), Lori McKenzie (vocals, percussion), Bill McKenzie (bass, vocals), Theresa O’Hare (flute, Irish whistles, vocals), Tom Irwin (acoustic guitar, vocals) and Chas Blythe (electric guitar, vocals), the group manages to work in traditional instrumentals, original tunes, contemporary songs, folk classics, modern rock numbers and more, all done with the “Celtic-fusion” twist that infused the music since the band’s inception. With new songs and arrangements accompanying the latest induction of additional members, TEU intends on heading into the studio soon to make a record of the current sounds of the band, while continuing the traditions already established in making Celtic music in central Illinois.
