• Anybody remember the Brown Bag Blues Boy, Tim McKean? They say he came
from Illiopolis, hung out in Springfield, then relocated to Los Angeles in the
late 1970s. While in the capital city, McKean performed with the Blues Boys,
Sangamon Valley Hoedowners, and Finnegan’s Wake, and as a solo act. Welcome
him back to Springpatch for one night only, from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct.
21, at Lime Street Cafe (951 S. Durkin Dr. ).

• Inside sources at Illinois Times have Rod Lingo pegged as a
hit. In fact, the ladies around the office have said things about him we dare

premieres with the popular smooth jazz group Razin’ Kane. The billiard hall
will feature cabaret seating for the listening audience, food, and, of course,
plenty of pool playing. The music goes from 9 to midnight.

a.m. Sunday at Dempsey’s (225 E. Monroe St.). And I didn’t say anything about
the delicious chocolate cookies he bakes all by himself and gives out to friends
attending the celebration — because I hope there are some left for me.

• It’s a study in the classics of classical music this Friday, Oct. 22,
when the Illinois Chamber Orchestra uncovers its roots with Bach meets Mozart.
If you’re like me and a sucker for some keen harpsichord playing don’t miss
the talented Alice Edwards performing J. S. Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto in
D Minor (my favorite key). See it all at the First Christian Church, Sixth
and Cook streets, at 7:30 p.m.

Tom Irwin, a sixth-generation Sangamon County resident, has played his songs and music for nearly 40 years in the central Illinois area with occasional forays across the country. He's contributed to Illinois...
