Fresh from their Springfield debut at last week’s SOHO Music Festival, the Max Allen Band (MAB) drops into Marly’s on June 17 for a night of funk-blues-jam-jazz-rock songs. A seasoned group on the Midwest jam-rock music scene, the trio of Max Allen (guitar, vocals), Shaan France (drums, percussion) and Dace Robie (bass) tours regularly performing an average of 100 shows a year. Known for his intricate, tasteful and well-crafted guitar work, Allen adeptly guides his educated and experienced musicians through a hopscotch world of musical genres full of improvisation and experimentation with a serious appreciation of music well performed. Popular artists Allen has shared a stage with include Chris Duarte, Dishwalla, Carrie Newcomer, Dickey Betts, Spin Doctors, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Ekoostik Hookah, Dark Star Orchestra, The Marshall Tucker Band and Umphrey’s McGee. Based out of Indianapolis, MAB records for Big Walnuts Records and released Ending Sun, their sixth CD, in 2009.
