Formed in March of 2005 when former Leftover Salmon fellow Vince Herman (vocals, guitar, mandolin) joined with Chad Staehly (vocals, keyboards) to make an offhand, all-star group for a Rainforest Action Group benefit performance in Boulder, Colo., the show went so well Great American Taxi drove on.  Over the years band personnel solidified into Jim Lewin (electric guitar, vocals), Edwin Hurwitz (bass) and Chris Sheldon (drums) as the group’s “Americana Without Borders” sound became a stalwart of the ever-evolving jam band circuit. Herman loves to go improv on the crowd, inviting the audience to get involved on stage and off by singing and jamming, making for a real happening at live shows. In January 2011 the band released CD number two, called Reckless Habits, produced by Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth to “bring the feel of an on-stage performance to the recording process.” The current tour pairs up the band with singer-songwriter Todd Snider for few concerts and takes Great American Taxi on a countrywide run.
