What sounds come to mind when gypsy-jazz music gets mentioned? If it’s soaring vocals, speedy guitars and swinging bass you are in the realm of the Chicago-based Fumée Gypsy Project. This last year, Christy Bennett (vocals, accordion), Casey Nielsen and Nate Baker (guitars) and Christian Dillingham (bass) completed a crowd-sourced, fan-based funding project on Indiegogo to support Reverie, their new record. Now they’re out performing the recording live on a CD release tour with dates in St. Louis and Chicago, plus one night only in Christy’s original hometown of Springfield. She did school time in Pleasant Plains and went to Sacred Heart-Griffin for high school, doing some Muni productions and other local singing organizations along the way. Her love for the gypsy-jazz style led her to fellow musicians in Chicago also infatuated with the intriguing music. She’s dedicated a good part of her life to making this band happen, much to her joy and our benefit. Sam Crain and Rob Killam join the FGP at the Engrained Brewery show.
